We took a tour of Queenstown that highlighted some of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings filming sites. Above is a hill used for several scenes including a rocky area used to film the escape from Minas Tirath.

We ran into an unfortunate fog that prevented us from seeing the area where they took a boat into Minas Tirath, but this is near by a bit. We learned a lot about how specific Peter Jackson was with the details, making the boats exactly how they were described in the books despite their design flaws. Some cast members actually fell in the water as a result.

Then our Jeeps took us into the river where the actors were filmed running from the Ring Wraiths. While it was cool to see this filming spot, it was even cooler to be riding a Jeep through a river! It was unreal!

To end the tour we drove up the mountains for a beautiful view of the city, and the battle to get up the mountain to ski! Queenstown is truly a beautiful place to be!
